Master Classes/Performance Classes/Recitals:
Students play in a variety of Master Classes, Performance Classes and Recitals throughout the year. This helps motivate them to learn new, challenging pieces, as well as become a better performer and musician. Each Master Class is given by a well-qualified piano teacher with credentials that allow him/her to help the student excel in his/her piano piece. Performance Classes provide the student an opportunity to perform for peers and become better acquainted with what qualities make up a good performance. Master Classes and Performance classes help the student prepare for upcoming recitals and/or competitions/festivals. Recitals provide the student and family an opportunity to invite friends and family to listen to the student perform. This is the place where the time, money and effort will manifest itself. Please refer to the Private Program Schedule for dates, times and location.
Davis Music Competition, Personal Progress Review (PPR) & Theory Testing:
This year we are strongly encourage each of our private students to participate in our annual Davis Music Competition. This competition will provide a great opportunity for your child to perform as well as receive constructive feedback to help them become an accomplished musician. This competition is currently scheduled on Saturday, March 19th. The fee for participating will be $15.
Practicing Policy:
Progress in music requires a commitment to practice at home. We ask our students to practice no less than 30 minutes for 5 days a week. In our program we follow a schedule, in order to keep up with the schedule your child will need to come to each lesson prepared. We will offer a 3 chances policy. If we see your child’s practicing habits begin to affect their progress in a negative way, we will contact the parents to see how we can help get some improvement! If after 3 chances we do not see improvement, your child may risk losing their spot in our program.
STUDENT COMMITMENT: Each student commits to practice at least 5 days a week. All material assigned for the week needs to be practiced. Students agree to arrive at each lesson punctually, well-prepared and with their assignment book and music. If there are any assignments that are not understood, please call and ask questions. I am always willing to help out in between lessons.
TEACHER COMMITMENT: I will commit to put my best effort forth to prepare for each lesson with each child. Every child has different needs and ways of learning, and I will strive to teach catered to each child’s needs. I will do my best to help motivate and encourage practicing and find music that interests the student, as well as meet the requirements for the upcoming performance piece.
PARENT COMMITMENT: Find ways to encourage your child to practice. Listen to them practice. Praise them. Know the assignment for the week and follow-up with the child to make sure the correct assignment is being practiced. You are encouraged to attend lessons as often as possible. Be involved. Bring the child to lessons on time.
